Jekyll's Desperate Notes
Poole has been sent to all the wholesale chemists in town. Each time he brings back a sample, there is another paper telling him to return it because it is not pure. The notes become more urgent.
The Letter to Messrs. Maw
One note, found in Poole's pocket, asks Messrs. Maw to search for any remaining old stock. The note ends with a splutter: 'For God's sake, find me some of the old.'
The Futility
Despite the pleas, no pure salt is found. Jekyll's scientific work has come to a dead end. The failure of the drug supply seals his doom.
